DVBBS

The crazy Canadian brothers in rhythm with Rave in their Hearts

Interview by Dan Prince

Chris, Alex welcome back to DMCWORLD…where in the world are you today?

We’re in our home country, Canada. Awesome to be back here for a little bit.

What was the first piece of music you heard this morning after rolling out of bed?

We listened to some reggae man, morning vibes. Not sure which track we started with though.

So, new tune ‘Raveheart(fucking great name by the way) causing havoc out on the battlefields right now. Please talk us through the sound and history of the tune…

Raveheart was a sort of new take on our style, we wanted to stay true to that typical huge DVBBS sound but it needed something fresh/new. We’re really happy with the result!

What club/festival has given you the biggest reaction to the track?

Reactions have been pretty wild, but when we played that track in Montreal it was crazy. But maybe that’s just because we really like Canadian crowd.

And what superstar DJs love it?

It’s been played out by quite a few big names, guys like Borgeous, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Tiësto, NERVO and Firebeatz

“Words Cant Explain That Feeling”. Try and explain what it feels like to be playing in front of 100,000 people going apeshit to your music…

Well…like you said, words can’t really explain that feeling. Like imagine doing something good for one person, just making sure that they have a good time and multiply it by 100.000. It’s crazy.

What are the 5 big records in your box this weekend?

  1. 1.DVBBS – Raveheart…can’t let this one not be mentioned, we just love the tune.
  2. 2.Quintino – Devotion…massive remake of a classic track
  3. 3.Riggi & Piros – Love Me A Little…cool future-housey sound. Played this one at Tomorrowland mainstage.
  4. 4.Dirtcaps & Yellow Claw – Smoke It…huge track from a huge EP, sick work by these Dutchies.
  5. 5.DVBBS & ID – ID…awesome new stuff is coming your way!

What is the most rock n roll night you have had this year?

Hmm, it’s so difficult to pick one. But there’s been some really rock ’n roll nights on Ibiza this year. Chilling at Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike’s villa, pool-parties with Tinie Tempah…

Your anthem of the summer?

Staying in the Ibiza vibe; Vengaboys – We’re Going To Ibiza

You are in and out of Vegas all the time. Who is top dog club wise there at the moment and how musically have the crowd there improved over the years…in the past they would dance to any old shit…

Guys like Tiësto and Calvin Harris have sick residencies over there so they’re probably the ones coming closest to top-dog. Vegas crowds are always ready for whatever you know, that’s what the entire city is about. We feel like they’ve improved in the sense that they’re a bit more selective in choosing what parties they go to, but still, you can’t ever say that the Vegas crowd is there especially for you gig.

One gig we are looking forward to is Cruise Ship departing LA in October. Just how rawkus do these raves out at sea get?

These parties are soooooo sick. Holy Ship! is always such an amazing event and the stories that surface after parties like that are just insane. It’s going to be amazing.

The best rock record ever made?

Smells Like Teen Spirit – Nirvana

What has been the best festival this summer?

The best festival of the summer is yet to come and it is our own festival, Mount Woozy in Toronto. That’ll definitely be the pinnacle.

What would you prefer for Christmas? A bag of records or a bag of weed?

Little bit of this, little bit of that…
