Back to Mine with Russ Liquid

We are In Love with these late night sessions

01. Cornbread – Lee Morgan.
One of my favourite trumpet players of all time…. And one of my fav songs of his…. Herbie Hancock plays piano on this. The groove is real.

02. Flores Silvestres – Fruko Y Sus Tesos.
I love Colombian music… This is one of my favourites.  When it breaks down to just the piano montuno near the end… That’s my sh!t !

03. Mango Meat – Mandrill.
The horn section is real nice. Such a hi energy funk track… Always gets me in a good mood.

04. Brasil Pandeiro – Novos Baianos.
I love the Portuguese language. To me it’s one of the most beautiful languages sung.  This particular song to me is so beautiful and minimal at the beginning yet so effective. Beautiful singing and incredible guitar playing.

05. Sweet Touch – Blue Hawaii.
This music is just beautiful.

06. Luscious Lady – Darondo.
It was the early 70s in Oakland, California, and streetwise hipster William “Darondo” Pulliam was a funky guitar slinger who could also deliver the sweetest soul west of Al Green. His approach was not imitative; he took to the melodic touch of Green with ease, imbued it with the street vibe of the East Bay and his own raw and unique style.

07. MmmmHmm ft. Thundercat – Flying Lotus.
The future of jazz…

08. Pembroke – James Blake.
James Blake is a genius at taking a simple idea and extrapolating it out into many different variations… His understanding of harmony in regards with tension and release is second to none in the electronic music world. Definitely a huge inspiration.

09. Peg – Steely Dan.
Do I need to say anything about this…? It’s Steely Dan!  Music I grew up listening to… Making musicianship cool.

10. Gold Dust Woman – Waylon and Willie.
The Outlaws…. This song is just epic.. Not a huge fan of country music at all, however Waylon and Willie somehow break the mould and are in a category of their own.

Rising sta, Russ Liquid celebrates the release of his latest album ‘In Love’ described by THUMP as “full of syrupy disco synths and finger popping bass”, with a special run of UK shows with fellow Lowtemp label mate and owner, Gramatik.  2014 has been a landmark year for Gramatik. From the release of his seminal album ‘The Age Of Reason’ to selling out some of the most prominent venues in the world, including the esteemed L’Olympia Paris, Denis Jasarevic has left a distinct imprint like never before this year. To round it off, the aptly named ‘Leave Your Mark’ tour has been the crowning accomplishment to this stunning run. Going from coast to coast in the US, and up and down across Europe, it now draws to a close with four shows in the UK. Grab tickets here: http://www.gramatik.net/

Another such guest is the latest addition to the label, Andrew Block. Sounding straight out the 1960s funk and soul scene, ‘You Can Only Go Up From Here’ from the man himself comes as a refreshing revival of a by-gone era. Recorded in the heart of New Orleans, it is a product of its surroundings, with the city’s musical roots clearly influencing the sounds and textures used within the album. Since moving to New Orleans, Block has made a name for himself through performing and collaborating with some of the best musicians the city has to offer, including Terrance Higgins, Ivan Neville, George Porter Jr., Stanton Moore and Big Sam Williams, to name a few. It is now with this amazing debut that his talent as a guitarist and songwriter shines through on Gramatik’s trailblazing label that celebrates all in funk, soul, electronica and more. Keep tabs on all things Gramatik and Lowtemp via the links above! After stunning crowds at sold out shows all across Europe and the US this summer, 2014 has certainly been busy for the 2014 EMA nominated Slovenian DJ/Producer. Already having played Glastonbury, Garorock, Pukkelpop, Outlook, Le Printemps de Bourges, Marsatac Festival, L’Ososphere, Les Eurockeennes, EN LEFKO Festival, Electric Castle Festival, Festival Week-end au bord de l’eau, Positiv Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, Deichbrand Festival, Emmaboda Festival, Beat-Herder Festival, Mono Festival and more this summer. To top things off, the ‘Leave Your Mark’ tour will feature support from members of the Lowtemp family including GIBBZ and Rolling Stone’s very own ‘Best Use Of Flute 2014’ by Russ Liquid adding an extra dimension and vibe to each date.

Not one to condone to the status quo, Gramatik started his own label, Lowtemp which was “created by artists for artists”. All instilled with an ethos of “freeing the music by making it free”, it serves as a platform for innovative forward-looking artists to share their sounds with the world. Now totalling a staggering 100+ million trackable album downloads, Gramatik’s philosophy is translating into a true cultural movement for the future of music consumption.Taking it one step further, Gramatik practices what he preaches and teams up with his artists for his own releases, as seen on ‘Get A Grip’ featuring his Lowtemp label mate Gibbz. That is the mantra that fans all around the globe adore and are drawn to, helping Gramatik and his crew sell out show after show all over the world.
