Feder – real name Hadrien Federiconi – originates from Nice where he grew up with love of the local and international house and hip-hop scenes. Feder decided to make the move to Paris in order to make his mark as a producer. Released towards the end of 2013, his debut track ‘Sixto’ – a rework of Rodriguez’s ‘Can’t Get Away’ earned a strong following online and was approved by Rodriguez himself. But it was his original release, ‘Goodbye’ that placed Feder into several music charts worldwide. A massive hit, ‘Goodbye’ charted at #1 on the iTunes Charts in 28 countries, #1 on the Shazam Charts in Europe and is the #50 most shazamed track of all time. His follow up ‘Blind’ shared similar success with earning Top 10 status in 12 countries and earning a place in the Top 5 in the French Spotify chart. Also a keen remixer, Feder has reworked tracks for the likes of David Guetta and Rudimental. He now returns with his brand new single ‘Lordly’…
How did your single ‘Lordly’ come about and what was it like to work with Alex Aiono?
I made the instrumental of Lordly a while ago. And I could feel like people really liked it. So I thought, why not make a new version of it and release it as a proper single, so the team could give it a push. I started working on vocal melodies. It wasn’t easy as the song already had a strong vibe of its own. But then we found the one melody that worked well for me. Alex Aiono tried it in LA. He sent a demo. I really liked his voice so we both met in London, discussed the song and eventually recorded the final vocal in a studio there. We shot the video clip while we were both in the UK. Alex is a very nice guy, chilled, and easy to work with.
I’m super happy to be a Spotlight Artist. I do feel like there’s something interesting coming out of France these days. I don’t really know if it’s a new wave of producers and how long it will last. But there’s definitely a bunch of guys doing great stuff at the moment. As France is a small country, we also know each other quite well. We’re touring a lot. And I’m quite often sharing the stage with Kungs, Synapson, The Avener, etc.
Pretty intense. Early 2016 has been mainly promo – studio time. And then the craziness of summertime. When you basically spend your whole summer on the road travelling Europe. Which is both really exciting and tiring.
In what ways has your sound developed since you started out as a producer?
Well, I think I started Feder as a deep house producer. Like my remix of Sixto or even Goodbye. And then I slightly changed for something more house I guess. It’s always a bit hard to classify what I do, because in the end I always feel like I’m trying to do electronic music, with a great vocal and a great groove. Although, I’m always trying to experiment with new stuff. My 3 singles are somehow quite different in terms of production.
You’ve played some shows in Ibiza this summer and you’ve recently played some shows in your native France, is there anywhere you’d love to play?
I played Europe a lot this summer, Canada as well. And yes especially Ibiza where I think I played something like 8 or 9 shows. Next year I’m going to travel to South America for a tour there. So I think I’m now missing the US and Asia. I hope that I’ll be able to schedule a tour in North America in 2017. I’d love to do the West Coast there.
What has been a standout show you’ve played this summer?
It’s always quite hard to say. Exit Festival in Serbia was crazy. I played at 5am for the sunrise right after Oliver Heldens. The vibe was amazing. But I can also talk about Ibiza’s nights, which are always special. So many good memories.
What tracks have you been playing a lot in your sets recently?
Come and see me live – you’ll see. And we can even discuss it afterwards…
And finally what’s next for Feder?
New releases soon – and an album for 2017. Plus all the touring and promo. So it’s a busy schedule ahead of me.
