London based DJ and producer FURIO creates an irrepressible and punchy fusion of latin brass, hip hop and trap. Drawing Influences from contemporaries Baauer, JOYRYDE and Flume, FURIO injects innovative electronic production with a variety of unique influences. A love for South American music shines through on his debut EP ‘SLANKY, due for release March 31 via independent label Subtle Energy.
DMCWORLD got a few minutes to chat to FURIO ahead of his debut EP release…
Welcome to DMC World, FURIO, how are you doing and where are you speaking to us from today?
I’m doing well thanks – I’m speaking to you from my studio in London, currently listening to this madness which was recorded under a bridge in Southwark
How did you get into music production?
I’ve been writing music for over 10 years now, the journey has been fun so far. I started making loops on Fruityloops in 2007, and I’m still making loops on Fruityloops in 2023
As a producer and DJ, who are the artists that have inspired you the most throughout your life?
Throughout life is a big question… I’d have to say most importantly Hip Hip (DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Chad Hugo, Pharell, Timbaland, Just Blaze, Hi Tek)
Which artists are on your radar at the moment?
JLZ, VHOOR, DJ VINI DA ZO, DJ Cayoo – a lot of this Brazilian Baile type music with no drums and just mad simple hooks, driven to fuck – its almost like Westside Gun style, but more aggressive and dancefloor focussed
Tell us about your upcoming EP, SLANKY, what was the creative process like?
Tbh, I just wanted to have some fun and make some bouncy shit that would slap, it was quite a liberating process. Wanting to try and mix some Latin influence with some Trap / Hip Hop that was a bit more direct was the aim.
Do you have a favourite track off the EP? Why is that?
I reckon its Senor Slap – its the first track I wrote and its got the balance of purpose, bounciness and spice.
