Jack Wins

Behind every man is his story. For Jack Wins, it was the discovery of dance music at the age of 9. Aged 11, he first experienced a 25K capacity rave in his hometown of Haarlem, the Netherlands. Fast forward 6 years and he made the decision to move to the UK in order to pursue this relentless passion. Armed with an innovative mind, Jack Wins made it his Saturday ritual to dig through the bargain basements of London’s record stores, purchasing ‘white label’ vinyl to later sell them back to the same store with profit once they became hits. This entrepreneurial streak lead to a career in the business side of music, before a realisation that it was the creative side that he craved all along. From street flyering, to physically sending out tapes to labels & promoters, to his very first residency at an East End pub in London – Jack has proven that sheer determination will always win. With recent chart topping releases and official remix duties for the likes of Ed Sheeran, Clean Bandit, Dua Lipa – not forgetting his collaborative remix with Jonas Blue – there’s no wonder that DJ Mag UK have championed the Dutch producer as one of their ‘Ones To Watch’. Now, with 2018 in full swing, Jack Wins looks ahead to more A-list remixes and soon-to-be-revealed international festival dates – not to mention joining the Axtone family with a series of releases, following a personal invitation to the label from Axwell himself. DMCWORLD checks in…

Welcome to the DMC World towers Jack Wins, how are you?

Hey guys! Thanks for having me – I’m great! I’m currently in my studio finishing off some new material ☺

You’ve recently released an official remix for Axwell /\ Ingrosso’s ‘Dreamer’ – how did that come about? And what’s the response been like so far?

Axwell himself reached out to me asking if I was up for remixing their new track. Having been a fan of both Axwell & Sebastian for a long time, I feel very lucky to have been asked for this.
Response so far has been great! Lots of tastemaker and radio support – It just hit #2 in the 1001 tracklist ‘Newcomer’ chart and is currently riding high on Beatport as well ☺

Kygo also asked you personally to remix his track too, tell us a bit more about the remix…

Yeah, so Kygo has been playing a lot of my productions and remixes over the last year – with my Clean Bandit remix being his favourite. Kygo really wanted a more upbeat version of his track ‘Never Let You Go’ (featuring John Newman) that he could play on tour and thought my sound would fit well. It actually features on his ‘Kids In Love’ remix album, which is out now.
The remix is a typical Jack Wins remix – piano led, groovy and full of feel good vibes ☺

Next month you will be playing alongside Jonas Blue in London. What can we expect from your live show?

YES! I’m super excited to play alongside Jonas at Electric Brixton on the 10th March!
I’m planning to drop some new unreleased material and remixes plus adding some live elements in my set with the Maschine.

You’re also confirmed to play with Hardwell at Victoria Warehouse in Manchester. How does it feel to be playing alongside fellow Dutch DJs?

It’s always fun playing alongside other Dutchies and catch up and see what everyone’s up to! I haven’t met Robbert (Hardwell) and W&W before, so should be nice to have a little chinwag ☺

Which DJs and producers act as a sounding board for you?

It’s quite a mixture really. Often just close producer friends, but sometimes also more high profile DJ’s when they’re interested in my music for their label.

We know that you’ve got a lot of new material on its way. What can you tell us about these productions?

All tracks are vocal led house tracks – very uplifting feel good house music inspired by the early noughties when vocals were king ☺ A proper mixture of feature artists as well – quite a few soulful ones, which I’m very excited about!

A life in the day of Jack Wins…

It tends to be a mixture of getting inspired by looking out for new music, finding out about new fashion and exciting art and using this inspiration in the studio to produce new music. Songwriting sessions are the most fun to me – working with very talented songwriters from completely different backgrounds and using each other’s strengths to come up with something exciting and fun.

Finally, what advice can you give to other DJs and producers who are coming through?

Be consistent and relentless with your work ethic and output, love what you do and be nice to others – we’re all in this together for the love of dance music ☺
