Interview : Dan Prince

Jose welcome to DMCWORLD, where in the world are you right now?

“A “As usual Dan, just in my room. Working on music!”

It was your sister that introduced you to trance music, in particular Tiesto. What does your sister make of your huge success and does she come to your shows?

“Yes, she introduced me to Tiesto, back when he still played Trance. She is a few years older than me. So she helps me whenever it’s possible, and most of the time she does go to the shows, at first she was the one that had to take care of me haha.”

Before this new sound suddenly caught your attention and you began the production process, what other careers when you were growing up interested you?

“I’ve always been into computers, and stuff like that, so maybe an Engineering Related Career.”

Your home town of El Paso, Texas is booming on the dance scene right now. You played on the Sun City Stage at the SCM Festival last month, tell us about that crazy experience – there must have been a lot of familiar faces in the crowd?

It “It was a very amazing opportunity that was given to me, it was a very cool experience, getting to meet all the big DJs. Yes, most of my friends were there in front row, have to thank them for always supporting me when I play.”

Summer anthem?

“Hmm, probably the Alesso Remix of One Republic’s “If I Lose Myself”.

You readily admit a few months back that you struggled for a while on developing your own sound – making something new or different. But now you thinks have slowly come together. So, how would you describe your style in the Fall 2013…

“Well I’m still working on it, but I can say that it is slowly coming together, using the same techniques and sounds”

What do you do when you get writers block?

“I usually just step off the computer, go play some basketball, or video games.”

What is the current top 10 you are spinning?

“At the moment I really like…

the The brand new Alesso & Calvin Harris “Under Control”

Ad “Adrenaline” by Lush & Simon

     “Calut” by Loken

This new track called “Flute” by…I can’t say who!

“Blueprint” by Dannic & Sick Individuals

“Bootie In Your Face” by Deorro

“Air” by Hellberg, Teqq and Taylr Renee

The Ookay & Borgore remix of “Hanging on Me” by Dirtyphonics

“Antares” by Michael Brun

And finally some Abel Ramos with his track “Lexus”

Your new productions have been getting supported by so many superstar DJs this summer – whose name are you especially pleased to see on the ‘supported by’ list?

“It would be amazing if Armin Van Buuren would, or any of the Swedish House Mafia guys. I respect those 3 guys a lot…Ingrosso, Axwell and Angello.”

What is coming out next from you studio wise?

“I have a few collabs lined up, including a new one I’m doing with my friend Loken who just released on Hysteria. Got over an hour of unreleased music. And working on new originals at the moment.”

OK let’s delve into your musical mind…

– The record you wish you had made? – “Maybe that Alesso Remix I mentioned of “If I Lose Myself”. Alesso is 10/10 on melodies. Love his stuff!”

– Your best piece of production to date? – “Not sure, really. But I have some cool ones that are not yet officially released.”

– Your guilty pleasure song, the song you shouldn’t like but secretly do! – “Beauty And A Beat” by Justin Bieber and Nicki Minaj. But the only part that I like is the drop, which was made by Zedd.”

– The genre of music you cannot stand… – “I don’t really hate any kinds of music.”

Not many people know this, but Osen is really good at…

      “GTA V.”

The person who has helped you the most in your career?

“There’s been a few people locally, and internationally that have helped me a lot. But my family has been there for me.”

Your dream collaborator?

      “Hardwell.”

And finally, the best and worst thing about living in El Paso?

“Best thing about it is that since it’s not a very big city yet, almost everybody knows each other, which is good because the music scene is really growing here. Worst thing would be sometimes part of the good thing, that since there’s not that many people, we don’t access too many things like other cities.”
