Danism

Where’s your hometown/where are you from?
Cambridge and Manchester.

What were your early musical influences?
Funk, disco and hiphop mainly

What/When was your first foray/break into the dance scene?
Promoting the Goodly Wednesday in Cambridge, we had all the big named Americans playing there. Great fun for a few years.

Any particular driving force behind your music?
We are doing something new trying to fuse the energy and breaks from drum and bass with the music and soul of the US house scene.

Where do you think the future of house music lies?
The future of house music is in the hands of the producers and DJs involved in our scene. I think the scence is the best it has been in years at the moment and I hope it continues like this.

How/when did your new release come about?
Monique Bingham and ourselves got in contact and decided to get a project together, the music was recorded in Cambridge and the vocals in New York.

How did you get involved with MN2S?
The first time I met them was in MOS after we had been playin at a Defected night. But the first time I can actually remember was when we signed to the agency via Defected Records. Since then the relationship has grown.

What’s in store for 2005?
We really enjoy the proccess of writing new songs and coming up with fresh musical ideas and that’s what we will continue to do. Besides working with labels such as MN2S and Defected, we also have a new release called ‘Love Is No Its Way’ Featuring Heidi Levo, coming out on Yellow. This will be promoted at Miami Winter Music conference next year.

How’s the music scene in London different from the US?
There is a bit more open mindedness to music in London as a whole. But it’s not where you’re from but where you’re at and what you’re doing. We have just finished a track which as we said was half recorded in New York and half recorded in Cambridge it’s all part of the same thing.

Do you think it’s hard for a DJ to be a great producer and vice versa?
Each skill is separate but they do feed of each other. I think ideally we would like to excel in both areas.

Cielo New york and Yellow in Japan both look amazing, but the MN2S party at The End was also off the hook, so many great clubs around we would just love to play as many as possible.
