Richard Grey returns with his new single ‘Unchain It’ on Pacha Recordings…

Hey Richard, so us about your connection and love for Pacha first off…how long have you lived in Ibiza?
“I first came to Ibiza around 1995/96 and completely fell in love with the club music culture. There were so many DJs playing in Ibiza throughout the whole summer and it was a great inspiration to me. However, I did a worldwide round trip to get me to realise that Ibiza was the best place in the world for me to set up my studio all year round. I haven’t really looked back, I have been living here for over 4 years now and still really enjoy it.”

So the new tune, as piano breakdowns and electro drops go, an amazing tune – what’s the story behind this? How did you hook up with ZoëXenia who features on the tune?
“Steven Hulme – who is the Pacha recordings A&R man put me in touch with her. She normally has a different kind of sound, but we brought her over to Ibiza and after 4 days the vocal was created. I really enjoyed making this tune with her – she is a great talent.”

So as I remember, your career into dance music was influenced by your father’s record collection – what sort of stuff filled the house when you were growing up?
“Funk and Acid Jazz was on the turntable all day long! I remember really being into house way back in the early days, but it was so difficult to get my hands on it. I did my first trip into London to buy house records at the age of 16.”

Your discography reads like a who’s who of the recording world, what self production or remix or album are you most proud of?
“Funnily enough, the unreleased ones! I have made many Hip Hop & R & B tracks that will never see the light of day…oh yes, and some of my first Tribal records on Basic Trax in 1995.”

What other European producers and DJs do you rate at the moment?
“I do like Albin Myers from Sweden and John Dalhback.”

When the sun starts to shine in May, we all get ready for a huge Summer Richard Grey smash – do you think that your releases are the perfect Summer soundtrack melody?
“Well I think this record suits all seasons as its just a great, uplifting track that is not overtly summer. However, I am sure there will be a summer hit in the pipeline too coming up…”

Eric Morillo, he helped way back in the day signing you up, have you had some crazy night’s out with Mr Subliminal in Ibiza?
“Eric helped me again recently and I actually have a new deal with him. And yes, I had one very good after party at his house, but this is private – what happens in Eric’s house stay in Eric’s house – sure you understand!”

Your label G-High Records, pretty prolific huh?
“Ha – I’m getting there.”

Your musical styles encompasses everything from tribal, techno, house and beyond…what is your favourite sound to play and work with?
“I love to do every kind of music – I know most people will say that – but why do I have to do the same shit all day? I guess it really depends on my mood…”

What has been the best party in Ibiza this year?
“I played at some great ones with those Swedish boys – Steve Angello, Sebastien Ingrosso and Axwell at Subliminal sessions. Legendary…”

What musician out there would you like to collaborate with you haven’t already?
 “Timbaland for sure…”

Which is your favourite bar and restaurant in Ibiza?
“Pacha’s restaurant – I know it is Pacha and I work for them, but it is true, I love the food out there.”

What do you love about Ibiza so much to have made you move there in the first place?
“Winter time and the peace I get there to do my music.”
