As part of the ‘Superdiscount’ team alongside good friend Etienne De Crecy, Alex Gopher already has his place in the French dance music hall of fame confirmed. This self-titled album is something a little different, softer pop that recalls bands from the 1980s like Prefab Sprout, in sound if not lyrics. Things work best though when he funks things up a bit, such as on ‘Out Of The Inside’ and the excellent ‘Brain Leech’, with Cassius, but while some daydreams such as ‘Song For Paul’ are nicely done, this could do with a bit more bite for the dancefloor.
