Clark - Iradelphic

Clark – ‘Iradelphic’ – (Warp)

Clark - IradelphicClark is one of the most celebrated acts on the Warp label and rightly so – his albums are always something of an eye opener. ‘Iradelphic’ continues that trend, but it’s surprising for the way Clark conforms to convention a lot more, as well as exploring the outer boundaries of rhythm and melody. There are vocal tracks – a couple of excellent contributions from Martina Topley-Bird – and a solo piano track, ‘Blackstone’, which will surprise with its similarity to a Michael Nyman film score. It feels odd saying that an album by Clark is easier on the ear, but this one is – and it enjoys a warmth and exotic feel that none of the other records have done so far. It won’t please all his fans necessarily, but it will prove just what a versatile and flexible composer of electronic music he has become. Still one of a kind.
