RUSH HOUR RECORDINGS/BLACK LABEL

Where the hell did this lot come from? It’s unlike much else about at the moment yet sounds like a host of great dance records you’ve heard at some point ranging from Kraftwerk to Prince through Cybertron. Throughout a relentless, churning funk beast is carrying on with an intriguing cross between the Trans Europe Express and the Spirit of the Boogie. This is laced with quicksilver melodies, unexpected drama or a sudden urge to elevate everything into the realms of euphoria. The Comtron Group are based in Amsterdam and have had a couple of twelves earlier in the decade. There sternly-delivered manifesto numbers corporations over 16 tracks of sublime electronic funk. Titles include ‘Greed And Finance’, ‘Profit’, ‘Material World’ and ‘Evil Machine’. There’s also a bonus mix-CD which seems to go on forever but by the end you’re so hooked you don’t want it to stop. An unlikely blast of fresh air with the guilty sphincter pointed firmly at the future.
