Daniel Stefanik – ‘Confidence’ – (Cocoon)

A familiar concept forms the story to Daniel Stefanik’s new album, which is essentially a document of a night out on the town, from evening til morning. It’s an idea that has been done to death rather, but Stefanik’s production values make his own take on it extremely worthwhile. The warm washes of sound bring in a serene ‘Entrance’ are immediately appealing, before the night really gets going with ‘Port Of Transition’, which hurries along,. Stefanik can sometimes take a while to get going with his musical ideas, but the time taken reaps rewards elsewhere, for as we move in to the morning section ‘Keep On (Version II)’ has an appealing delicacy, while ‘Confidence’ rediscovers the warmth of the opening, coming full circle so the album can begin again. A well executed take on the theme, giving Stefanik’s quality productions, sitting somewhere near the junction of house and techno, plenty of room in which to breathe.
