JULIAN LIBERATOR
TRUE DEFECTIVE
WEDAFUQAWI

Techno needs an album which boasts fearless originality, sense of purpose and qualities to make it stand out from the usual anonymous collection of tracks that often don’t make it as a continuous home listening experience. For such a complete body of tackle to emanate from the subterranean loins of the acid techno scene is not really a surprise as the main movers have spent the past ten years honing their party soundtracks into a fine art of joyful noise. But it’s simply a jolt and a delight to encounter something so fresh and even challenging as Julian charts a typical night out. Maybe a scary prospect but on the journey he encounters everything from electrofield robot love songs [‘Love’], supercharged P-Funk – the colossal cut-up fest of ‘Bootsys Daps’ – and an electro-tech mutation which is up there with the German gear in the disembodied disco dream of ‘Saturday Night Teenage Pigment Abuse After Hours’. He even does a devastating carve-up of ‘Funky Town’. Of course, there’s also lashings of Julian’s trademark brain-bleeding techno, delivered like a DJ set and set to annihilate. Never a dull moment and absolutely recommended to anyone who likes a good, messy party.
