With all the hype surrounding label mates LCD Soundsystem it would be a crime to overlook Juan MacLean, whose debut album is a superbly crafted collection of electronica with a human touch, despite the title. MacLean has no trouble funking out in the single ‘Tito’s Way’ or the brilliant, ass shaking bass groove that drives ‘Give Me Every Little Thing’. Nor does he find it difficult to emote over fragile breakbeats, as he does on ‘My Time Is Running Out’ and the awesome ‘Dance With Me’, a fifteen minute miniature suite that ends with a gorgeously mellow piano sound. Forget Daft Punk – when it comes to robotic electronic music, MacLean has got things totally sussed.
