Steppa’s Delight 2
Soul Jazz

The second collection of dubstep from Soul Jazz is every bit as good as the first,  imaginative and forward thinking in its choices and music. Brooding inner city  soundscapes and bouncy, energetic beats feature frequently, but there’s a lotof originality in the way producers like Shed, LD and Dusk treat theirinstrumental forces. The dark textures and chattering rhythms of D1’s ‘Oingie  Boingie’ are a highlight of the first CD, while Gemmy’s ‘Supligen’ is acurious oddity – in a good way – on the second. While established producerssuch as Martyn and Benga make their mark, this is about the wave of relativelyunknown producers who are making finely crafted, darkly energetic music.Dubstep perhaps, but pushing all sorts of boundaries, and an invigoratinglisten as a result.
