‘Drone step’ is the term loosely applied to Adam Freeland’s first mix for Global Underground. I suppose it’s a way of saying that it’s a bit different to what you might expect – the guitars are noticeably turned up and the beats a bit less concrete on CD1, but that doesn’t stop tracks like the Para One remix of Trabant’s ‘The One’ thumping down on the dance-floor. Evil Nine, Justice and DJ Mehdi make sure the pace never slackens elsewhere. CD2 does wind things down a bit, surprisingly, and takes a little while to fully ignite. When it does the magic returns – and tracks from Andy Weatherall and Freeland mixes of Fujiya and Miyagi and B Movie power through to the end.
