A new series from the We Love… label, the ‘Artist Portraits’ looks set to be a fascinating reveal on some of the top names in house. Playford deserves this exposure, given to us in the form of a double long player. The first CD presents Playford’s own work, either on his own or as Weirdo Police with Tom Gray, and it proves perfectly timed for summer with its warm synths and vocals. Guest turns from Danielle Moore (‘Can’t Reach’) and Shelly Poole (‘Pretty Thing’) are especially seductive. Then Playford turns to the turntables for a house set that could be directly streamed from Space, such is its good vibes and euphoric breakdowns. Again keyboards dominate a mix that kicks off with Playford’s mix of Wierdo Police’s ‘Missed Wish’ and gets progressively quicker, heavier and a bit more funky. Kerri Chandler, Onionz and finally Tim Deluxe see us home with plenty of good vibes and rays of sunshine, ensuring the first in what will hopefully be a long series is definitely one to take away to the Mediterranean with you.
