A mix album from Stacey Pullen is an event worth covering for sure, especially when it’s a contribution to one of the most enduring mix collections. It does take a little while for this pairing to reveal their treasures, but they are definitely worth sticking with as Pullen blends and paces his mixing to perfection. The first mix reaches a peak with the superb Cid Inc track ‘Response’, one of those minimal pieces of work that pans left and right to hypnotic effect. It works so well because Pullen manages the lead-up, Miss Mee’s ‘Let’s Walk Down’ and Roi Okev’s ‘Run Giorgio Run’, to perfection. Disc two is into its stride with more purpose, Pullen showcasing his own ‘Save Ourselves’ and ‘I’m Coming’, before kicking back a bit more with Oscar P’s ‘Reactions Of You’ and Osunlade’s ‘Schavanna’. ‘Melody’ was Pullen’s watchword when compiling Balance, and he’s stayed true to his convictions with two sets that reward repeated listening.
