The elements of jazz here are a bit tenuous, but who cares when the elements of house do the business? Surprisingly for house music from this source there’s a darker side to a lot of these tracks, exploited in Carl Craig’s remix of Beanfield’s ‘Tides’ and Ame’s retake of Nigel Hayes’ ‘Augustus’. Even Blaze sound a bit subdued in the Rocket Road remix of ‘Sacred Sex’, while a strong closing section goes deep with Kerri Chandler, Shur-i-kan vs Milton Jackson and a gorgeous string-led number from A Hundred Birds. The pick of the year from Slip ‘n’ Slide, no question.
