The annual Glasgow Underground compilation was always a highlight of the dance music calendar, and if you haven’t got them already I’d recommend any of the six available volumes released around fifteen years ago. It’s great to have them back again, rising phoenix like from the ashes, to present us with their latest thoughts and tunes – in this case, summing up 2014 for the label. This is a double compilation that does the service both of paying tribute to Romanthony and of offering some consistently good new stuff. It’s also structured in the way their compilations used to be, Kevin McKay overseeing a selection that begins poolside before moving under the lights. The woozy, heat soaked Admin track ‘This World’, the groovy Ovr Kill track ‘Floating Point’ and Grum’s remix of McKay’s ‘Body Talk’ are early highlights, while from the Romanthony ‘Floorpiece’ (via Alex and Claptone), ‘Trust’ (Motor City Drum Ensemble) and ‘Bring U Up’ (PBR) are given top quality remixes. As always with the label the quality threshold is high – so stick it on now and dream of summer!
