Various Artists – Late Night Tales Presents After Dark Nocturne Mixed By Bill Brewster – (Late Night Tales)

The name Bill Brewster should be enough to secure a purchase for this release. The DJ historian – who is still a mighty fine DJ, of course! – brings in another selection of night time joy that includes some tasty exclusives (Emperor Machine and Charli XCX/Lindstrøm) and some rare tracks (Plastic Bertrand and Rudy Norman). Scream & Dance ease us in with some nice, loping funk that Plastic Bertrand picks up on, and it’s not long before we have a really satisfying pair of funky numbers from Hotel Motel and the really classy ‘Chained To The Train Of Love’ from Coalkitchen. This is going to be a dancey nocturne after all! Brewster then cuts a deep groove with Matt Dirt’s ‘In Deep’ and Hugh Mane’s ‘Organic Ceramic’, two productions that keep a wide open sound as though we’re under the stars. Want more? Well Rodion, Emperor Machine and Trulz & Robin have it all, the latter’s ‘Acid Cake’ a subtle wig-out that leads into a classy bit of Mang Dynasty work on Spaghetti Head’s ‘Funky Voodoo’, the joyous piano heard in full effect. The summer vibes are all over this one!
