Various Artists – Orbiter I – (Moon Harbour)

If you don’t know Moon Harbour, you don’t know dance music: the Leipzig label run by Matthias Tanzmann is an absolute bastion of quality tech house music and it has been for years now. As well as artist albums and solo EPs that help future the careers of various producers old and new, the label is now starting a new series entitled Orbiter I. It is one that will look to highlight the breadth and depth of the labels talent by offering up four cuts from four different producers.

Detlef, a regular on this label and VIVa, goes first with I Am Freddy, a squelchy cut with real slap funk in his perc. The drums are tight as a, well, drum, and there are some freaky and bendy synths to make you move your ass. Liverpool legend Lewis Boardman keeps it deep and silky with his Don’t Stop tune, which is rolling and rhythmic and really sucks you in with just some subtle and clever filter usage. Andrea Oliva comes up trumps with a freaky and playful cut full of mad voices and tin pot percussive sounds. It is the pick of the bunch for me and finally Zlatnichi & Joey Daniel hook up for the first time to producer Is That Jackson. Their track is loopy and infectious, subtle and slow burning but truly magic for the way it casts its spell on you. This rounds out an excellent EP that is jam packed with dance floor greatness.
