Jazzanova have their fingers in many musical pies, and their ongoing ‘Secret Love’ series with Re:Soul is one of their best. The theme is electronic music but with a broad template, down tempo stuff that takes in touches of folk, jazz and funk. This proves to be ideal for either end of the day but still rewards should you choose to listen more closely. The third volume shows their inspiration has not diminished, with subtle beats and luminous orchestration giving life to tracks from Tuning and the wonderfully constructed ‘Cassette Single’ of Fujiya & Miyagi. Meanwhile the song writing sensibilities of Jose Gonzalez and Fink are explored, the latter’s Sonar mix of ‘Pretty Little Thing’ a highlight. If you got the first two in this wonderful series, no need to hesitate – and if you didn’t, this should persuade you to buy them!
