Where vocal and soulful house music is concerned, you just cannot ignore the contribution made by Defected over the last decade, and this handsomely packaged five disc set does full justice to their first ten years. Mixed by label head Simon Dunmore and Andy Daniell, the discs contain no fewer than 70 tracks, with a good 20 exclusives making this a must-have for even the most devoted fan. All the Defected classics are here – too many to mention, but the likes of Kings of Tomorrow, Bob Sinclar, Martin Solveig, ATFC and Dennis Ferrer should more than whet the appetite. Each mix kicks off in uplifting style, and when you consider that through these discs you have the likes of Jocelyn Brown, Barbara Tucker, Julia McKnight and Kathy Brown, you get the picture that only the best Defected tracks have made it here – and all can be bought with small change from a tenner. Defected fully deserve this moment in the sun – as one of the most influential labels in dance music they have not only progressed themselves, but have rescued the Strictly Rhythm and Junior Boys Own imprints along the way.
