Minimal abstract house is everywhere at the moment. Essentially conceived in Europe it mashes up progressive, techno, electro, acid and tech-house into one minimal druggy sound that’s driving the floor into a deep trance and rallying djs from varied backgrounds. Crosstown Rebels has been quick to follow the trend and has snapped up ‘Safari’ from Firm in Cologne. In the hands of the talented James Holden it becomes an impressive trippy affair (123 BPM) whereas Soma’s latest protégé Alex Smoke provides a calm rework based on a ravey lead (124). The same Smoke’s got a new single out to launch his eagerly expected debut album ‘Incommunicado’. Providing the missing link between the Border Community and Kompakt labels ‘Don’t See The Point’ is gently off the wall and rich in atmospheres.
