Forget 30 years ago – punk lives in the the mighty Atomizer, who’ve dropped a 2006 electro equivalent of ‘Anarchy In The UK’ for their follow-up to ‘Zero Zero’. The lyrics list everything from politicians to religion to be greeted with a resounding ‘We are nothing!’. It’s in your face and suitably aggressive. This needs a big backdrop and KLF’s Jimi Cauty is more than up to the job, coaxing a riotous blast of guitars, noise and even barking dogs which all combine to make something quiute incendiary indeed. The end result is like B.A.D. meets Jonny Slut’s old band Specimen in an electro hot-tub spiked with crystal meth. Atomizer’s own remix strips it down to a purer electro cruise with botox in the buttocks. Two extra tracks are just as good: ‘Albino On The Beach’ is crashing electro with sea effects, sub swells and a vocal line which somehow recalls PiL. ‘Siamese Sons Of The Seven Seas’ somewhat echoes Siousxsie & the Banshees in its melodic swirl but, by now, you realise that Atomizer probably like these groups but have simply got their own unique sound. This should be massive.
