CLATTERBOX
CONTROL FREAK EP
TOUCHIN’ BASS

Like Rephlex, David Kempson’s Clear was one of the pioneering UK electronica labels of the 90s which has since risen in stature to be now regarded as seminal [and highly collectable]. Like some of his contemporaries such as Mr Being, he nows pops up on one of our most cutting edge imprints and shows a distinct veering towards the dark side of electro foraging. The four tracks here are dark and unsettling but bear repeated listening. ‘Vector Model’ hoists an atmospheric riff over light-fried electro groove. ‘Peripheral Vision’ is a boxy, grainy romp before the title cut’s dry smash-groove gets splattered with a bass hellbent on farting in the bath. ‘Digital Dominoes’ is malevolent and scary with its eerie floatation feeling and disembodied sounds. And congratulations to label boss Andrea Parker on climbing Mount Kilimanjaro for charity – the physical equivalent of her label!
