Mr Glover’s move away from traditional club fayre in favour of a more rock orientated approach hasn’t been much of a secret, but here’s the first fruits of his endeavours. “This Is Not A Love Song” is a fairly straight reading of the PIL song, Princess Julia stepping in for vocal chores, and obviously enjoying herself. The guitars mesh well enough with the strident beat, and – whilst Princess Julia’s not the world’s greatest singer – it’s all handled with gusto. Better is the instrumental track “House Freak”. Lots of aggressive riffs, an elasticated bassline and lots of wobbly effects, combined with ear tweaking drums. A full length album should be out soon.
