A production duo with roots in Dublin and Glasgow, Heralds Of Change are clearly determined to make rap music that stands out from the pack (and draft in some decent US rappers to boot). Boom-bap purists might be appalled, but others will appreciate the out-there sounds on this EP. The excellent ‘Bopgunn’ sounds like one of Outkast’s wackier musical moments, fizzing with uptempo 808 drums and blips galore. ‘Be Out There’ is also laden with much sonic FX, while ‘Stay Cool’ even has a slight hint of latter-day J-Dilla about it. Throw in the head-nodder ‘Trip Fall’ and you have a package that folks used to describe as “value for money”.
