If Gwen Stefani’s album was a huge disappointment despite prestigious collaborations with the likes of Outkast, The Neptunes, Nellee Hooper, New Order, ‘What You Waiting For’ is unquestionably one of these last few months biggest pop smash. The kind of unstoppable hit that invariably gets all on the dancefloor. Jacques Lu Cont provided superb electro-house renditions (unfortunately extremely poorly cut), then came along a US 12” with decent (but by no means exceptional) reworks from Felix Da Housecat and Armand Van Helden. However the song’s impact has been such that a handful of booties have lately made their way into the racks. Best of the lot is a euro make-over from the Bastards Of Funk (?) which kicks the peroxided blonde’s anthem into electro-pop house mode (129 BPM).
