aito is Hiroshi Watanabe, a Japanese producer who somehow found himself part of the NY club scene in the mid nineties. His work, extremely evocative, never really quite fitted in but always stood out for being blessed with a unique naive, melodic feel. Nostalgic and yet powerful, his melodies would run endlessly through your mind. Now looked after by the Kompakt aesthetes, it seems he’s found the best home he could have hoped for. The majestic ‘Colour Of Feels’ is a laid-back wave of synth washes that takes you back to the summer of love (119 BPM). ‘As Time Goes On’ starts off contemplative but the light breakbeat and bassline are grooving (129). Mathew Jonson’s become in no time one of the big names of the deep minimal scene so an appearance on the Speicher series was bound to take place. ‘Dirt Road And A Boat From Soundwave’ is stylish comedown material (125) wilst Axel Bartsch offers a narco weapon in the name of ‘Galaxy’ (129).
