The third single to be lifted off Miss Kittin’s impressive debut LP ‘I Com’ is not an obvious choice, particularly on the heels of ‘Requiem (For A Hit)’, one of 2004’s mammoth anthems. A beatless lullaby with an eerie edge (119 BPM), ‘Happy Violentine’ becomes a standard electro-tech number in the hands of Marco Passarani who brings fairly unimaginative beats and synths to the equation (129). Ticking like a Swiss clock the remix of Kompakt’s head honcho Michael Meyer has unfortunately little soul to offer (124). Next is, er, Mad Professor who turns out a skunked out dub (what else? 121). So it’s down to LFO to save the day with amazing re-interpretations of both ‘Requiem’ (134) and ‘Violentine’ (125). Mark ‘genius’ Bell proves once more there is a fantastic creative mind at work, not just another guy with a lot of studio toys at hand.
