Holy bat droppings! This takes me back to 25 years ago and the spooky heyday of the Specimen’s Bat Cave club in Soho where the flyers looked just like the artwork and picture disc accompanying Miss Kittin’s new album Batbox. There’s always been a dark element to her punching grooves and distinctive delivery, now she’s singing, ‘vampires are asleep, witches are taking over’, reviving the strain of electro-goth first whipped by the Specimen slinging Planet Rock mutants under their dark missives. On this highly attractive trailer for the album, the remixes elevate each side to floor-killing status; Norway’s Black Labelle undertake a ten-minute electro odyssey which gets more compelling as it unfolds while NagNagNag resident Jo Jo Freq uncorks a pulsating acid codpiece-buster. The album’s a blood-curdler too.
