Phonat
Incredible Sound
Mofo Hifi

The Young Punx have caused shockwaves with their debut album and continue
their quest to put humour back into dance music with this latest discovery
on their Mofo Hifi imprint. Phonat, who was first heard remixing the Punx’s
‘Rockall’ single, hails from Italy and is apparently seven foot tall. He
builds the tune on a kick which sounds not unlike someone banging a nail
into a shed, unleashing the synthesised acrobatics and squelchy riffs before
it builds into a barrage which sounds like nothing more than Sooty’s mate
Sweep indulging in some how’s-your-father with Soo the panda. After an
earth-shaking climax he carefully inspects his sausage with satisfaction and
starts waving it at a platoon of gerbils. There’s a dub too, vocoder vocals,
heavy guitar power chords and ultimately the sense of kitchen-sink whoopee
we’ve come to expect and love with the Punx. If only Sooty could talk.
