Touchin’ Bass had an amazing 2005. Not in terms of media frenzy and blaring club chart supremacy. Label boss Andrea Parker don’t give a shit about that. But for fearlessly ground-breaking music in the original electro spirit, they couldn’t be beat. To cap it all, here comes probably their strangest, bravest record so far, which really is like nothing you’ve heard before [unless you’re a Martian torturing Gary Glitter]. RD hails from LA and debuted on the ‘Subsidence’ compilation. His first EP is four tracks of unearthly atmospherics, twitchy pulsings and a rake of heaving textures which can recall anything from monstrous alien breath to the dripping cistern on a flying saucer. ‘Likwood’ actually brings in a bassline but the rest is out there. Beyond electro and techno, the only remote comparison could be the earliest Krautrock. Who cares, it’s great fun.
