Despite being originally from the Isle of Wight, Shakes craft a sound-clash of indie-rock and electro-funk that’s unquestionably urban (and current). Swapping vocal duties at regular intervals, it seems brothers Matt and Darren Farrow share a deep bond, the kind of rare complementary alliance that only siblings can grasp of. Released in Tellé’s new Hot! Hot! Hot! Series (which, fittingly, is aiming to bring together the worlds of rock and dance), ‘Sister Self-Doubt’ impresses most in its Alternative version (download & vinyl).
