Its not easy for a new act to follow a huge club hit crafted by producers du jour so Spektrum dont even try to compete and go back to band basics with a live sound full of NYCs grittiness. After the mammoth Tiefschwarz mixes of Kinda New – which broke bleepy electro-house in the UK – the east London act delivers a follow-up that, alhough in a radically different vein, is equally as strong (116 BPM). May Day nods at X-Ray-Spex (the punky sax and Breaking Glass synths) and Nina Hagen (the vivid performance of loony character/singer Lola). Electronic cabaret?
