Simon Lord and Theo Keating set out the Black Ghost manifesto on their recent mix CD – electro-influenced club music with plenty of soul and, where necessary, a bit of griminess. So it is with “I Want Nothing”, skinny legged pop that’s catchy as hell and sporting a particular dark bent, all carried forward over a relentless groove with bags of attitude. Sinden seems a natural choice for remix duties, yet somehow his monster-mash rave approach leaves the song over-powered. Markus Lange gives it a decent dark house re-twist, but remix honours are claimed by DC Recordings’ Vincent Markowski, who throws unwieldy breaks and off-worldly synths together for some true sci-fi psychedelic fun. You also shouldn’t overlook Jack Beats (Plus One & Beni G) sturdy electro-house revision with good chopped up vox. If their album is half as good as this single, The Black Ghosts could be set for world domination.
