The new wave of American bands trying to sound like British bands from the late 70’s & early 80’s continues. VHS Or Beta hail from Kentucky but there’s not a single southern drawl in sight, in fact the singer sound’s so much like Robert Smith from The Cure, it makes me wonder if this lot used to be a goth tribute outfit. Baby Daddy from the Scissor Sisters is up first at the controls, delivering a powerful retro futurist Germanic disco outing, which compliments the smudged eyeliner vocals perfectly. On the flip DFA’s The Juan Maclean stretches, reverses & tightens the groove resulting in a taught bumper with an acidic climax. Precise pouting all round.
