WU-TANG CLAN
DISCIPLES OF THE 36 CHAMBERS: CHAPTER 1
SANCTUARY URBAN

Cruddy round the edges, Californian crowd set-pieces not always working, songs barely lasting the first verse…it’s still great to have the Wu back at the height of sentence-finishing, mic-passing, live devastation. Virtually all of their heaviest hitters are barged through, wisely focusing energies on their debut and solo set bests (Cappaddona’s ‘Run’ into Pretty Toney’s ‘Run’ is priceless). The nine reunited boorishly sound like they’re here to unflinchingly blow away the cobwebs rather than enjoy themselves, but it soon gets the audience eating out of their hands. Method Man half-jokingly sums things up; so good, “even ODB showed up”.
