Andreya Triana – Gold – (Ninja Tune)

I first heard Andreya Triana’s musio on Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Show when it was on Radio 1 – I bought the album. Four years later, she has a record deal with Ninja Tunes, respect from the music industry taste makers and a diary packed with live and festival appearances that would be the envy of any artist. Now there’s ‘Gold’. An Adele / Seinabo Sey reminsicent, Southern gospel sounding, happy clappy sound with a hooky ‘yeah yeah’ chorus that is immediately more commercially accessible and radio friendly. Remixes come from Black Butter Records’ Karma Kid who trips it out with some synth generated psychotropics and siren call vocal snippets. Fort Romeau blow their whistle over a polyrhythmic arrangement that will tie your standard clubber up in Gordian knots. Hackman gives us some sparkle and bubbling deep house, then Fakear offer up some broken beats and Nikitch lays down some downtempo future soul taking care of the underground. Good package.
