Fat Freddie’s Drop – Mother Mother (Cosmodelica Remix) – (The Drop)

New Zealand’s award winning and chart topping, musical melting pot Fat Freddy’s Drop emerge from the depths with ‘Mother Mother’ and a phat and firing, funky and unfeasibly bad ass, rolling deep house remix from Boston native and house music Godmother – Cosmo. It grabs you from the reverbed, opening horn licks and the sexy bassline drop (feels like Gwen Guthrie’s ‘Seventh Heaven’ for a hot minute but … ) then in come the soul-smoked vocals and it becomes a trumpet led, funk-fuelled, space is the place, dance off par excellence. Cosmo fully exploits the groove whilst inviting you to find your own place in the spaces between the notes to excellent effect. Tried and tested from New York to Glastonbury to France to Ibiza and beyond, it’s a battle weapon that gets sharper with each play, dance, listen. Cosmo has, quite simply, created the perfect artillery for any summer, basement, backroom, terrace or festival party. At nearly 9 minutes long, it shoves its sunshine so far up your ass you’re sweating rainbows by the end of it – and you could still take more again. Single of the Week as far as I’m concerned.
