Federico Grazzini, E-Dward! & Double Dash – Ubuntu 001 (Ubuntu)

Federico Grazzini is an Italian producer who lives between his Italian home and Ibiza. He has headlined the best clubs in the world, from Womb in Tokyo to The Zoo Project in Ibiza and also plays live as well a laying down top DJ sets. Now he starts a new label that a he promises “will be an interactive open space where music and any form of art is shared from friends with like-minded people and whoever else is interested in this modern creative outlet.”

If you like your beats trippy and underground, heady and serene, then this EP is for you. It is varied and vital and touches on techno and house with equal aplomb. The killer cut for me is Bender, produced by the boss, and it is a freaky number with metallic textures and heady grooves underpinned by slick bass. Double Dash’s Slurm McKenzie cut is more hard hitting and direct, with bulky drums and flappy snares really sucking you into its essential groove. E-Dward! actually opens the EP with Today Is Your Day, a retro roller wth crisp and cutting hi hats and dark vocal refrains repeated over tough drums. This one also comes with a remix but the bass is more stripped back, soft and supple. Overall this is a top EP and licks off what is sure to be a great label.
