In my continuing quest to imitate a budgie’s scrotum at every opportunity, some items inevitably get flown over as I soar through the skies, chirping loudly while pointing at my feathered cod-piece. This latest missive from San Francisco’s renowned Short Bus Kids’ label marks the debut of Dallas-based South African Greg whose steadily been making a name as a hot deep house DJ around the Midwest and in his native country. Deep-voiced house music expounding accompanies the deep pads, shimmering Rhodes and lush pads a la early Strictly Rhythm before a trio of remixers feather their own multi-hued takes: Brighton’s Magnus Asberg and Jimmy Day – aka C-Soul – get disjointedly bleepy, the Short Bus Kids go tough and percussive before spacing out in their inimitable style and Tom Latham from Midland duo Special Interest adds some old school Nottingham-style chunky bounce. Fantastic label; check this and all their others.
