H Foundation – ‘Hear Dis Sound’ – (Siesta)

West coast label SIESTA has been considered a cultured and reputable source of top-draw house amongst those in the know for some time now, and on their latest they remind us just why they were so revered, especially back in the day. And so it is that Hipp-E and Halo’s Hear Dis Sound gets an interesting re-issue here, complete with none other than 7 remixes…

As you’ll no doubt be acutely aware of the original’s merits, it’s probably best we skip over the classic tribal track and head straight for the remixes. Leading the eh, heavyweight, cast is DJ Sneak, who delivers in his own inimitable manner with a fine remix that bears all the hallmarks of his unfussy dancefloor style. From here, the EP rarely pauses for breath, with furious remixes (Yousef), groove-soaked affairs (Franck Roger) and heads-down offerings (Adam Shelton) compiling the first half of the release.

Craig Richards’ remix – as you might have imagined – is the most unusual and jaw-dropping of the lot thanks to the many visionary, off-kilter sounds that pepper its 7-or-so minutes. DJ Buck proceeds to bring us back in line with the original’s momentum before a virtuoso display by Space Coast sees out the door amidst an onslaught of dubby textures. If you can’t find something to suit your tastes here, then you’re extremely difficult to please.
