Khen & Sonic Union – Driven By Demand EP

Khen & Sonic Union might not be household names, but that needn’t distract from the fact that they’ve served up a real peach of a release here on the Scottish label, Tribal Pulse. In case you’re unaware of the label and its merits, it’s one with a wildly eclectic sound persuasion – and one that promotes house in its many guises. In that essence, Khen & Sonic Union make for a worthy addition to proceedings, not least because of a quickfire production nous that comes to the fore on the Driven By Demand EP. And despite only serving up one moment of magic here (via the title track), it’s one that’s sure to stick in the mind for some time yet. A spiky, synth-driven frame engulfs our senses, and as they become more pronounced and guided, so too does the track’s penchant for white noise and drums. A rollicking journey that’s sure to raise a few eyebrows, it’s an altogether solid piece of club tackle. On Pole Folder’s remix, a tinge of sadness lingers throughout, but on the whole this one sticks out from the pack thanks to its many epic overtones. When it comes to crafting said sounds, few do it better than the Belgian, and he wraps up this package with a refined sheen.
