Krankbrother – One Eyed Jack’s EP (Classic)

Classic is a label that manages to bring oddball grooves and low slung acid house together with great effect, usually one or the other ricocheting off the grooves of whatever joint they put out. This badboy though manages to do both, with Krankbrother, destined to end up on this stable with that moniker, coming correct with two brilliant slabs of wonky 303 funk.

The title track shudders along with a mean acid line underpinning it all, lifting the classic “Jack me til I scream” vocal from Julian ‘Jumpin’ Perez’s acid house monster of the same name (you may also remember this from Mathew Herbert’s timeless remix of Louie Austen ‘Hoping’). It’s acid house 2.0 and not massively original, but fucking effective and very well produced. For us though ‘Freak in Motion’ is proper lob on material, gloriously funky and heavy paced house music which uses a Romanthony esque vocal to devastating effect after a metronomic build up. It gives us a full on studio stiffy, and is bound to get even the most arthritic of hips shaking in a club near you.
