Lau Frank – Body Count EP – (Gruuv)

If you like your dancefloors in total black out with occasional strobes, then reds and full lightning flashes like me, then the ‘Body Count’ EP will become one of your new best friends. ‘7am’ is a curtains fully drawn, day go away mind melter that aims to destroy every speaker cone (and eardrum) within its reach with its evil mushrooming sub bass and ‘now you hear me now you don’t’ vocal snippets. The Dachsund remix is a jollier and brighter affair – more a hotstepper in a daylight saving afterhours with a springtime view than a late night stomp in a seedy windowless corner. ‘Body Count’ is a steady roller with a fluff on the needle intro, slithering bassline, haunting atmospherics and vocodered Darth Vader meets soulful Michael Jackson-esque vocals. Tiger Stripes turn the house lights and the headlamps and every other light in the area on full beam for a full power road trip with crisp percussion, bright keys, an insistent vocal loop and some swelling synth pads that add a rainbow flash of colour to the scenery as it whizzes by. A raver’s reveil.
