Marcus Fix – Free To – (Epilog)

German DJ and producer Markus Fix has been excelling in the world of house and techno since 2007, releasing on labels like Cécile, Deep Vibes and Freebase, and now he pops up on the fledgling but already impressive Epilog label. As such, he serves up four tough and steely tracks of basement house that are seriously well produced and stuffed with feeling. It might be the last track Cable Guy that is most impressive – scurrying little drums, static crackles and a nagging lead synth line all make for heady, hypnotic listening that keeps on giving. Next up, Deep Eleven is a more funky jam, with sombre organic piano notes laid over lumpy drums and clacking hits. Its sad but optimistic, laden with emotion but also married to a keen groove and is easily some of Fix’s finest work. Until the End then completes the package with a bad ass screw bass sound, vocal yelps and scurrying little sound samples that all coalesce into a nicely rugged, rusty sounding house jam that will keep ‘floors enthused all night long. This is a fine EP from Fix and Epilog, then.
