Namy – ‘Gypsy Woman’ – (Double Cheese)

Everyone who knows me, is aware of the fact that I don’t like cover versions in general. In my opinion 95% of the ones done don’t come any close to the Original in terms of quality, production and output. However there are always exceptions to the rule and therefore I want to take the opportunity and review a cover of a very famous song, Crystal Waters’ classic ‘Gypsy Woman’ that originally hit us in 1991. It is executed by Japan’s rising star Yutaka Takanami aka Namy.

Always faithful to his trademarked classic sound, Namy delivers the goods here with a very respectful soulful, sometimes even playful refix. Even more preferable though is the Afro Beat driven version from Double Cheese label honcho Luyo, who turns this into the same direction, where Dimitri From Paris’ Montefori Cocktail Remix from a few years back, left off. Very danceable, very nice!

To round things off, you get a deep version from Quietboy on top of it!
